To summarize in layman's terms:
-
TRANSPORTING OR SHIPPING INSTRUMENTS WITH ROSEWOOD FOR COMMERCIAL PURPOSES – “Commercial Purposes” encompasses the act of selling an instrument for value. Any transportation or shipment of an instrument(s) for commercial purposes with any amount of rosewood requires a CITES Export Certificate issued by USFW, and possibly a CITES Import Permit required by the country to which you are seeking to transport or ship to.
-
TRANSPORTING OR SHIPPING INSTRUMENTS WITH ROSEWOOD FOR NON-COMMERCIAL PURPOSES: Any transportation or shipment of an instrument(s) for non-commercial purposes does not require a CITES Export Permit from USFW or a CITES Import Permit from the destination country, provided that the total weight of the rosewood in the shipment is less than 10kg (22 lb) of rosewood. Note: this 10kg (22 lb) does not refer to the weight of the guitar, but instead to the weight of any single piece of rosewood (if only one is used), or total of all pieces combined (if multiple pieces are used), in the construction of the instrument.
